Tamara Howell Counselling & Therapy: Welcome

Tamara M. Howell PGDip, MSc, Reg. MBACP (Accred.)
counselling & psychotherapy

Counselling and Psychotherapy

I usually meet with patients on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for sessions of 50 minutes, including 5 minutes to wind down and discuss any practical arrangements.

I offer a free 20 minute initial online consultation so that we can meet, test your internet connection and answer any questions you may have. There is no commitment to enter into therapy with me and if you choose not to proceed, I will remain available to assist you with referrals or queries. I maintain close professional relationships with psychiatrists, psychotherapists and counsellors in France, Israel, the United Kingdom, the United States as well as several other countries and am usually able to obtain helpful recommendations.

If you do decide that you would like to work with me, I will ask you to read, sign and return a contract detailing my terms and conditions.

During our first appointment, I will ask lots of questions in order to build a complete picture of what you are looking for and how we can work towards that. We will design a comprehensive plan to support your mental, emotional and physical health. In order to do this, I often provide referrals to specialist practitioners of psychiatry and other medical fields, nursing, nutrition, personal training, coaching and acupuncture amongst others. We might agree to work together for an initial 6-8 sessions and then take some time during an appointment to assess whether our work is moving in the direction you would like.

Private Practice

I offer counselling and psychotherapy in person to adolescents and adults at my new private practice in London, UK. Please enquire for availability.

Online Therapy

I provide confidential and convenient therapy via secure video conferencing to your home, office or even your car, as long as it is parked safely. The only things you need are a private space, a good internet connection and a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Inpatient Treatment Referral and Aftercare

I provide assessments and referrals to inpatient treatment programmes for depression, addictions, eating disorders, codependency and trauma. I will usually remain in contact with the therapeutic team during the course of treatment and offer ongoing aftercare support upon completion of the programme to ensure continuity of care. My recommendations include facilities in the United Kingdom, the United States, South Africa, Spain and Switzerland and are based on the quality of care, suitability of the programme and geographical convenience for you.

If you would like to discuss the possibility of inpatient referral, or are a treatment representative and would like to share details of your programme with me, please click here.

Training

I am currently developing a training course on the topic of Online Counselling and Psychotherapy in order to encourage therapists to explore the specific skills needed for this modality and adhere to the current regulations regarding privacy and security. I plan to offer this via video conferencing to small groups in five weekly sessions, incorporating BACP guidelines for working online as well as pairing participants for role play practice sessions and feedback.

If you are interested in undertaking training to practise online therapy, please click here to enquire about course dates.

Events and Conferences

I am available to plan teaching seminars and networking events on behalf of training institutes, professional organisations and treatment centres. I maintain connections with health professionals based all over the world including London, Paris, Tel Aviv and the USA and am active in international online professional groups and forums.

I recently organised and oversaw a three day event in Paris for a world-renowned psychiatric hospital during which visiting professionals provided valuable training on current research, information on the services they offer and networking opportunities both at an evening function and smaller individual meetings.

If you would like to discuss possibilities for collaboration, please click here to contact me.

Social Media

You are welcome to follow me on Facebook via my open profile and professional page. I am followed by colleagues, health practitioners, marketing professionals and patients as well as people unrelated to the therapy profession and my contact list is kept on private setting. I do not correspond with patients via Facebook as it is not a secure method of communication.

If you are a therapist or professional in the addiction field working with patients in the UK, you are welcome to join “Addiction Therapists Group in the UK”, a closed Facebook group offering the opportunity to connect with other practitioners on the topics of research, training, accreditation, jobs, referrals and self-care.
